The Number 11

Image obtained from vinylcreation.org

I am pretty sure that each and every one of us has a lucky number; but have you considered what your unlucky number is? I have and this number in particular is the number 11. Do not ask me how I came across this realisation.

When the time reads eleven past/ eleven to, I feel stirred up. When the date reads the 11th, I am paranoid the whole day. Worst of all is when it is the 11th month (November); I would go into a state of panic for 30 days in a row.

Some may say I have experienced something terrible-happening around the number 11- in one of my past lives. Maybe it is the duplication of the number one that freaks me out? Who knows! Come to think of it, what is your most unlucky number? Comment a post and let me know!

Conventional is a good fallback position isn’t it?

Image obtained from blogspot.com

Is it, really? Think about it, conventionally your life starts as a baby. You get sent to play school followed by Primary school and High School. You participate with your school work and hobbies such as dancing, hockey, swimming or whatever tickles you’re fancy.

Then you enter your college/university years. After completing your studies, you get a job and earn a salary. You find a partner, get married, settled down with children and the whole pattern starts from the beginning.

If you look at this conventional life cycle, one realises that these steps are not applicable to most South Africans. With such a diverse country, our cultures and conventions are extremely different. So, let me ask you, what is your conventional lifestyle? Would you fall back on that?  I won’t!

You cannot chase two rabbits at the same time

Image obtained from deviantart.net

It depends on what these rabbits symbolise. If they refer to a human begin chasing two lovers at the same time then yes, I would say it applies. Then again, when these rabbits are hopping along the lines of dreams...it is a different story.

I firmly believe dreams can come true with a lot of hard work, passion and determination. Some may argue that you cannot chase two different dreams and focus the same amount of energy on each, BUT times have changed. We are in the year 2012, right? Thus, we could multitask. It is not necessary to only become ‘a’ nurse or ‘a’ teacher. You could be both!

To live comfortably now days, it is crucial to run two/three jobs at a time. Besides, technology has enhanced. You could apply a tracker to each rabbits paw and Bob’s your uncle, they appear on a little TV screen. Not easy to catch those darn rabbits, but hey, it is possible!

Pokemon-got to catch ‘em all!

Image obtained from toychestnews.com

Pokemon cards have never disappeared, but like sands through the hour glass, Pokemon cards have re-entered our lives.  As anything in life, it upgraded like the cassette to the I-pod.

Instead of a boring card game, it is a strategically evolved card standoff played via board game. Let the battles begin! A bit complicated at first, but the more the play, the better you get at it! Go ahead, rekindle with your favourite characters (Pikachu) and join the fun!

You will feel like a kid again and besides, the 2012 London Olympic Games are over. Lots of time in your schedule! Who knows, for the ‘older generation’, one could make an interesting party game out of it...if you catch my drift, wink-wink!

The Spice Girls

I love the Spice Girls! There, I admit it. Thinking of this pop feministic group always puts a smile on my face. It takes me back to the days where I only worried about collecting Spice Girls posters, stickers, slammers, lollipops, bubblegum, clothes, accessories, CD’s and MOST importantly: those awesome platform shoes.

I wore those shoes everyday no matter what the weather or the mere fact that it clashed with my entire outfit. Wow, I was a die heart fan! When this girl band performed at the 2012 London Olympics, I jumped off my chair and sang along proudly. Yes, I STILL know the lyrics to ALL their songs!

I am a lot older now and I must admit that I felt a bit ‘embarrassed’ of owning two of their CD’s when I went through a ‘metal phase’, but the Spice Girls kept me out of trouble. They were a part of my childhood and a big influence in my life-believe it or not. Girl power to the masses! I am Scary Spice, shot gun!

Idea + Idea= Brilliant Idea!

When it comes to creativity, ‘plurals’ always seems to work best. Think about it, two heads are better than one. Yes, the process may be a tad bit more complex BUT an average idea could turn out to be something magnificent!

Also, a hat filled with ideas could allow you to come up with fresh concepts. Random at first, but when one makes it work, it works! I am pretty sure Kill Bill would not have been as successful with only Tarantino working on it. Yes he was the master mind behind the film but he also incorporated an entire cast and crew filled with their view points and ideas.

I will stick to this formula: Idea + Idea= Brilliant Idea! Making something average into something fabulous!

Choices-Chicken or Beef?

Image obtained from wallpaper4me.com

By simply buying take-out for lunch, I realised how many choices one makes on a daily basis. Scary part is that choices you make could depend on life or death.

  • Let’s track this back a little:
  • Wake-up: coffee or tea?
  • How many sugars? Milk?
  • What to wear? Heels of flats?
  • Petrol: leaded or unleaded? Oil and water?
  • At work/class: listening or hearing?
  • Lunch: sit down or take-out?
  • Chicken or beef?
  • Cheque or savings?

By simply deciding on getting up at a certain time could allow you to subconsciously avoid a big accident on the highway. Choosing the non vegetarian option could have saved you from food poisoning. Every choice you make influences your life which in turn influences the bigger picture. Get it? Scary, isn’t it?

Have you figured out the second head fake?

Image obtained from tumblr.com

A ‘head fake’ is equal to a chess match; throwing your opponent off their game by clever diversions and taking the glory. So, what is my second head fake? Well, I do not have one. It is much easier and satisfying to keep quiet about something and reward people with a ‘WOW factor’.

I am lucky to be one of the people who know exactly what I want out of life. I have it all planned out- including my plan A, B and E. Well prepared, ready to take action and kick some serious butt. Thus, I do not to throw in diversions or any unnecessary conflict. I simply keep my mouth shut.

I play with an open deck with all my cards on the table. My script is obviously influenced by my environment on both social and political levels; but let me assure you ladies and gentlemen...there will always be an element of surprise with whatever I do. No 'head fake' intended.
