Today is the annual World Environment Day. It gives me great pleasure to write about the pioneers of ‘ethical shopping’: The Body Shop. Here are some interesting facts that you might not have known about them.

Five core values they stand for are:
  • Being against animal testing
  • Supporting community trade
  • Activating self-esteem
  • Defending human rights
  • Protecting our planet

The Body Shop runs several campaigns where one of the recent ones was: ‘Stop Sex Trafficking of Children and Young People’. It was created to mobilise their customers and inspire them to take action! ‘Your Signature Really Can Make a Difference!’  attracted 7 million campaign petitions! The amount of people supporting this cause rendered to a record breaking entry in the history of the United Nations. Thus, it influenced 20 countries to commit to long-term legislative changes.

Another campaign includes ‘Being Wood Positive’. The Body Shop is giving back to Mother Nature by planting and protecting trees, whereas they minimise their primary, secondary and transit packaging. It comes to show that The Body Shop is not only about selling ‘green products’.

They are taking steps to make a difference in this world by abolishing the negatives and bringing the positive and beauty back into our lives. Go ahead, indulge a little and support the Body Shop. It is after all World Environment Day...I heard that the Coconut Body Butter smells amazing!
