Only bad things happen quickly: Halloween Serial Twist Edition

My opinion: this statement is false. Halloween is coming up and to stir things up a little, I am ripping this statement completely out of context. Two words: Serial Killers. Let us look at the five most terrifying and famous killers

Ed Gein (killings between 1947 and 1957) skinned his victims, exhumed corpses and decorated his home with their remains. He was the inspiration behind Silence of the Lambs.

Next up: Ted Bundy (killings between 1974 and 1978) faking injuries to attract young women murder them and engaged in necrophilia.

Gary Ridgway – The Green River Killer (killings between 1982 and 1984) claimed to have murder 71 women (predominantly prostitutes) by leaving a group of corpses at a landmark of their location.

A women, Belle Sorenson Gunness (Killings between 1900 and 1908) known as the black window who slaughtered her husband’s and claimed their insurance afterward.

Most terrifying killer: John Wayne Gacy (Killings between 1972 and 1978) had multiple personalities: a contractor, a clown, a politician, and Jack Hanley. He used a clown act, a pair of trick handcuffs and would attach a rope across victim’s throats while he murders and simultaneously rape them.

The point is, these serial killers did not commit bad things quickly. They formulated their plans by taking their time, preyed their victims and strategically tore them apart. Thus, bad things do not only happen quickly- it can be planned. Happy Halloween!

Baz Luhrmann

Romeo and Juliet, Moulin Rouge and Australia are some of his works of art and excellence. Baz Luhrmann, the director of these films, is indeed my favourite filmmaker of all time.

What attracted me to his work is that he is extremely visually orientated. His visual style is rich with colour with fine detail attached to each and every element projected on the silver screen. He paints a vibrant and vivid picture with the help of his wife whom is also the Art Director of each of his films.

He captures the essence of each scene perfectly within his setting and when placing the actors within the frame, he creates a mind-blowing experience. What a dream come true it would be if I get the opportunity to work with him and his team. After watching Moulin Rouge, I am totally hooked!

A Tree Huggers Perspective

I am absolutely head over heels in love with nature. This excludes certain insects of course but nonetheless it is a space where I gather my thoughts. The wheels of creativity turn when I find myself outdoors.

Have you ever really experienced the outdoors? With experience I mean by indulging with your senses within the environment you find yourself in. The soft trickling sensation when Mother Nature’s tears touch your skin. The fresh odour stemmed from deep rooted trees; sunlight delicately giving you kisses.

When indulging with your senses, you could really appreciate your surroundings. We are so lucky to have access to nature. Thus, it should be our journey to maintain it.

Cowboys DO NOT cry

Image obtained from megadeluxe.com

This was the way I was raised and throughout generations, this saying was kept within the family. Being strong and fearless with a warm and soft heart are characteristics my grandfather taught us.

The Xhosa people called him Peacemaker. In his time, he was a police officer- the good kind where he helped people regardless of their belief systems and the colour skin they owned. He was a brave and intelligent man, a hero not only to his family, but to others as well. He created harmony within the hearts of thousands.

Within the years I have known him, he never cried. He held his head up high and left behind big shoes to fill. I still want to make him proud, thus I try to stay strong and stand behind his motto: Cowboys DO NOT cry, they create peace instead.

Be bold and mighty forces will come to your aid

Stand your ground ladies and gents. Three critical factors include knowing your topic, being passionate about it and staying true to yourself. With those elements on your side will allow you to be recognised for better...or for worse.

Knowing your topic will allow you to proof and defend your point. Your passion could motivate those around you to jump on the bandwagon or in worst case scenario, become a competing team. Being true to oneself adds the extra ‘oomph’ one needs to add a special flavour to your chosen topic.

Go ahead, be bold and before you know it, someone could provide you with an opportunity...for better or for worse.

Independence

Image obtained from blogspot.com

What a hard-earned achievement! Recently, my boyfriend and I are house-sitting for two weeks. Why? My sister and brother in-law together with closely related relatives took a vacation to France, Turkey and Spain.

We were left with a naughty Yorkshire terrier (Snacks), a prim and proper princess cat (Nala), a house with 12 rooms and an empty fridge. Keeping up with feeding the animals, making the beds, making breakfast, lunch and dinner, washing dishes, hosting guests, doing the washing, maintaining proper hygiene and balancing work and relationships is a very tricky situation.

I learnt that by living an organised and well balanced life could enhance your sense of independence. It will also allow you not to forget the potato wedges you left in the oven two hours ago... oops!

If not now, then when?

An interesting and powerful saying when it is used in the proper context. My bottom-line: think before you speak! This takes me back to viewing my very first ‘Come Dine with Me, South African Edition’. Emotions flew from the group singing the national anthem to tears shattering a dinner party by taking a dark ‘racist’ turn.

One character, he-who-should-not-be-named, repeatedly made the ‘if not now, then when’ statement without using it in a proper context. Honey, words might make you seem intelligent although this will not fool an international audience.

My message to you: think before you speak. Keeping quiet and not revealing your IQ could definitely count in your favour!

Rocking the Daisies

Rocking the Daisies is one of the most life changing, environmental friendly and amazing festivals I look forward to every year! Like good wine, the festival ages beautifully together with a complementary pallet filled with memories, colours and laughter.

This year’s 7th annual festival was sold out with an astonishing amount of 15 000 people saving the planet one step at a time by ‘playing hard and treading lightly’. This number increased since 2011 where 10 531 attended the event. There is something for everyone!

One could dip your toes into the ‘Green Village Tent’ by dancing around barefoot and donating money to the GreenPop and Sunflower foundation. To quench your thirst, the ‘Mainstay Beach Bar’ offers delicious cocktails at a wonderfully cheap price. The next path leads your Converse shoes to join the more alternative and edgy ‘Main Stage’ where live bands perform their inspirational music to the masses.

To let off some steam, one swiftly jogs along the ‘Schnit Tent’ where international short films are projected 24/7. From there, one could warm up ones tummy muscles at the ‘Lemon Tree Theatre’ where one cries with laughter whilst sitting on the edge of your seat. For a more rustic feel, the ‘New World Beat Barn’ allow you to bob your head with an amazing stream of music tickling your taste buds. Finally, the vibrant and energetic ‘Red Bull Electro Stage’ makes you lose all control by dancing and stomping the night away.

There is so much to do with so little time. An experience of a lifetime and memories one could tell to your grandchildren one day (censored of course!). You have not lived until you experience this festival- true story!
